Oh Snap Ready Player One by Ernest Cline!

Ok I know I don't get to just write a blog post like i used to do. In fact my pod cast is now my weekly stream of thought, but today I have my youngest son at home and I find myself with some time to write. between diaper changes and naps I will tell you all about a book I read though www.audible.com called "Ready Player One" by Ernest Cline. First break, man what did I feed that kid, ok back to "Ready Player One" This is were I gloat about being born in 74, loving the 80's as a child and finding the first sci-fi book that made me feel like, the holding on I've done to that era, the trying to find that childhood spark, well in a few words is ok!!

Mr. Cline paints two futrue worlds, one of depair and the other the virtual world of OASIS. In OASIS you can be whoever you want, and look however you want. This is the parrell drawn from today's internet and mmo games, which I've played a few. ( WOW, STO, WOT) The Delevolper, James Halliday, a 8o's geek/Fan and one of the richest man on the planet,  dies and revels he has left an "easter egg" in the game which will give the finder all of his riches, which is great because OASIS has become a global engine for replacing common wealth. So if you have credits in the game  you can transfer them to the real world and get paid!! Parzival is the first to get to the frist of three keys that open three gates.  After that his world is not the same, but you need to read the book to find out more.

I really recommend this read either by audio book or papperback, especially if your like me and love Godzilla, War Games, Big Trouble in Little China, A Clockwork Orange, Ghostbusters,Pac-man, Tempest, Zork.

I think you get what I'm saying, also it's being written into a movie.

I love this book!

Oh Snap, "Nerd" news Sept. 22

I'm a big PC gamer and I just read  a story from techradar.com saying the Intel, what that's right INTEL's new CPU maybe the new wave in GPU/CPU video gaming. What does that mean for you and me, nothing RIGHT NOW but in a few years no more Nvidia, or AMD GPU war? Sure I'll have to buy all new Computer again, but with computer prices dropping that shouldn't be a problem, (unless the economy drops too, or I can't find a job in a week!) So anywho read more here and let me know what you think! Thanks techradar.com!!

PS3 and DRM to things that are not great together!

I'm so screwed I have the 40gig PS3, I bought it for the Blu-ray, and now I was thinking about getting a bigger HD for it. Now I can't because I didn't read the fine print again. That's if I want to buy a video fron their lovely PS3 video store before I upgrade I could lose it because and I quote.

" If you perform any of the following operations after backing up, copyright-protected video files in the backup data may not restore correctly.

  • Format the hard disk

  • Restore the PS3™ system

  • Move copyright-protected video

  • Download copyright-protected video

  • Play copyright-protected video that has a time restriction for the first time"

Well there you have it I guess that means now movie downloads till my new drive and I better make it a big one so I don't have to back up too many times. Now Sony says you can call them up and fix this problem, but should I have to? I hope they get this fixed, just like they need to fix the 40gig PS3 playing PS3 games with software emutaltion. (It can be done I know it!) Check it out here at engadget.com
